Nowadays, the use of essential oils for skincare and cosmetic products are key ingredients. Here are some benefits of the essential oils you need to know.

Did you know that Egyptians used essential oils in the process of mummification and during festive events? Also, in the Bible, three sorcerers brought baby Jesus gold,  frankincense, and myrrh as a present — the last two gifts were essential oils.

1. Lavender ( Lavandula officinalis )

Lavender with its sweet aroma is one of the most famous and widely recognized essential oils. It has been used for thousands of years by various cultures around the world. 

The earliest written records indicated that it was used by the ancient Greeks and Romans. 

Lavender can be used for the following purposes:

  • Stress Reduction: Inhaling lavender can help reduce physical and mental stress.
  • Fighting insomnia: Lavender helps improve sleep quality when used outdoors and inhaled.
  • Normalizing blood pressure: A 2017 study showed that lavender lowers blood pressure after open-heart surgery, and a 2015 study also demonstrated the benefits of lavender for normalizing blood pressure.
  • Insect repellent: Although the smell of essential oils seems pleasant to people, an insect does not like it.
  • Insect bites: Helps minimize the risk of infection and reduces itching when applied topically.

3. Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

This essential oil is obtained from the leaves of the melaleika tree, which grows mainly in Australia.

The aroma of tea tree is described as healing and fresh. Tea tree has many useful properties, namely:

  • Antifungal properties: Studies have shown that this oil has an antifungal effect.  It can also be applied to the skin to treat the “athlete’s foot” disease.

4. Lemon  (Citrus Limonum)

15. Cedarwood (Cedrus)

Cedarwood essential oil (holy grail essential oil ) is rich in antioxidants, has antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties. This essential oil has many health benefits.

  • Recommended for dry skin. 
  • Its natural astringent properties can heal the skin and muscles.
  • Strengthens the skin, enriches it with vitamins, making it more durable, supple, and elastic.
  •  Cedarwood oil is used for oily skin with the addition of other essential oils and carrier oils.

Cedarwood goes well with oils of rosemary and frakensence.

16. Bergamot orange (Citrus bergamia)

This oil can regulate and normalize the production of fat on the skin. Bergamot essential oils has its benefits for people with combination skin type (dry or oily in certain seasons). 

  • It helps with sensitive and oily skin. 
  • Used in massage procedures, baths, and is added to the bathroom to provide relaxation and tranquility. 
  • It can be used as a natural cleanser, as it helps to get rid of impurities.

Bergamot orange goes well with oils of lemon, lavender, and eucalyptus .

Note:

Most essential oils cause skin irritation, especially if not diluted with a carrier oil. A fairly large number of commercial cosmetic products that contain a certain percentage of essential oils.
